George has finally completed his apprenticeship and he is ready to start a shop of his own. He finds a building for rent on Long Wharf where he begins to ply his trade.

However, Boston's economy has not been doing well, and George's shop does poorly. Since he can scarcely pay his rent he considers closing shop and embarking on a fishing voyage with his two older brothers.
